Infrequent usage - is it typical to get a low battery warning?

In July of 2025, I bought a 2016 Evoque with a diesel manual gearbox. The low battery notice was visible for a few days after I bought the vehicle, but it eventually disappeared. Before that, it had been standing for a while. There was never an issue with the vehicle starting.

I didn't use the Evoque from early October 2025 until mid-December 2025 since it was at our vacation house. When I powered it up in mid-December, the low battery warning was shown. Another thing that has happened since then is that the warning no longer appears while the automobile is in use, but it does so again when it is not. No matter what, the automobile always starts the first time.

Is this typical, or is a new battery required? That is the main question.

Please let me know what you think in advance.

Although it's unlikely that your 2016 Evoque will still be using the original battery, you can verify this by looking at the manufacturing date printed on the top of the battery.

In all likelihood, it's time to get a new battery if it's not the original but is at least five years old.

Since numerous systems continue to work in the background even when the vehicle is off and secured, the low battery warning light will be more noticeable on shorter trips. The battery should be reading 12.6.

I am grateful. Thinking about checking the battery's expiration date is a good suggestion. First, I will verify that.

That is completely typical for any Range Rover.

How intriguing. It won't start anymore at some point. Has it happened to anyone else?

I too thought so, so I put an extra battery in the trunk 😂.
When the voltage dips below a particular threshold, the automobile will likely begin to shut down various systems. Probably won't worry with the vehicle alarm and entry system till the very end.
But a fully charged battery is ideal for any Land Rover or Range Rover.

The first item to eliminate is the stop/start, which won't be effective if I just drive a few short trips per week.

I can't speak for newer evoques, but after a while the Freelander 2 would enter a deep shutdown and the only way out would be the passenger door handle's mechanical lock. So, if you parked your car too near to a wall, you couldn't access the only door that could be unlocked. Then the alarm would go out, and the only way to silence it was to hit the start button while placing the key fob beneath the steering wheel. Do that when the passenger door is only half open!
Some kind of battery maintainer might be a good investment if you plan to leave your vehicle for extended periods of time. That is possible with a CTek battery charger since, after a complete charge, it enters a maintenance mode.

A CTec or comparable battery charger to be purchased, as mentioned before.

At most, I use my Evoque once a week, and while I'm not using it, I always plug it into the charger - no issues all.

An Obd/battery solar charger or the CTec would be great. Like the Evoque, my 24 C-HR is now parked from Sunday through Friday, so I'm utilising it on that.
