Do I need to calibrate or code new parking sensors? I know it's a silly question, but I wanted to be sure.

The front parking sensor on my 2008 S5 began to display an open or short to ground condition. it remained open or short to ground even after moving it to a new spot, therefore it was clear the sensor had died.
Seems like there's no connection or communication after I put in the two new ones I bought on eBay.

Before I keep going in circles and return them as defective, I just want to be sure I'm not missing anything.

When I replace the PDC sensors, is there anything special I need do, or can I just plug them in?

They are simple to install; clearing any accumulated faults should be all that's required.

Could you tell me the brand of parking sensors you purchased?

I've only ever purchased those with the VW Group component numbers, and I usually don't spend a lot on them.

Update: I've given them a coat of paint and a coat of lacquer, and they still function well.

It is really appreciated. I will return these and get some higher quality ones.
I have no idea what these are; the listing and the actual part both had the same part number, but the part itself was blank.

I regret to inform you that the two centre ones, which are a shade of satin grey, had to be purchased from a parts supplier in Germany at a higher price. I purchased two outer ones approximately ten years ago to retrofit front parking to my 2011 S4 because there were numerous NOS genuine ones available for a reasonable price. I purchased three of them, one for each side of the car, to ensure I had a spare.

It's worth looking into Progressive Parts since I've shopped there for inexpensive Bosch ABS wheel sensors, thus I'm guessing they also offer parking sensors.

Wheel sensors from Audi cost £109, Bosch ones from ECP £75, and Progressive Parts around £23.

Note: The most recent p/ns are 1S0 919 275 D, which supersedes the previous version, 1S0 919 275 A, which was essentially the same device with a straight connection (albeit some had right-angled varieties).

Obviously, you might look up the part number of an older broken one on eBay to see if there are any new old stock (NOS) options.

The versions you and I have are "straight" rather than "right angled," so I was mistaken there. As an alternative to Audi ones, Valeo is likely a good choice.

Last update: I got my hands on some authentic Volkswagen ones that match the part numbers to a tee. The problem persists after plugging them in!

Is there a reason the new ones can indicate "no signal received"? It still displays that, even after trying them in areas where I know they should be functional (based on VCDS). They seem to be short when compared to the new ones.

Please, any suggestions, as I am completely bewildered by this situation.

You would have thought that swapping out a functional PDS (that had been doing its job admirably with your vehicle before) with a brand new, authentic PDS would have solved the problem.

I think there's a glitch going on here; could you please verify that once you reinstalled an earlier PDS that had been known to function with your vehicle, it started operating properly again?

You may just try clearing accumulated faults after replacing a defective sensor to see if it resolves the issue.

Yes, I can verify that!

A scan revealed that the defect sensor is located in the front right corner. No further defective units. After inserting a "known good" into the malfunctioning spot, it began to function properly; nonetheless, the absence of a parking sensor in the centre left front remains an unresolved issue.
Replaced sensors, connected, cleared codes, and performed tests. There was thereafter no signal or transmission seen in the scan.

Claimed faulty sensor and replaced it with an OEM replacement using the same component number.
Retried after replacing the sensor and clearing the codes: no signal or transmission.
I reset the codes and attempted "key cycling" once again. Nothing has changed.

Even though I'm good at guessing when new sensors are defective, it's strange that all four of my recent purchases of replacement sensors—which I matched because they were identical when installed—have been defective.
Otherwise, I am at a loss. My best guess is that I need to include them to the module's code in some way.

Weird, but true: the inner right-hand side connection and wiring work as intended with a worn but functional sensor.
Their supposed plug-and-play functionality is something I still stand by.
I don't have anything further to suggest other than to make sure the sensors and both inner connections are in good working order.
